What it means

Your result in plain words

Your weight sits comfortably within the standard healthy range. Keep doing what you're doing — movement, sleep, and steady eating habits tend to keep you here.

Things BMI misses

Muscle, bone, and body shape

BMI treats everyone the same. An athlete with dense muscle and a sedentary person can share a number — and very different health pictures.

What to do next

Small, steady habits

Aim for 150 minutes of moderate movement a week, half your plate in vegetables, and a consistent sleep schedule. Tiny, repeated choices beat dramatic ones.

Reference ranges

Where you land on the scale.

Standard adult categories from the World Health Organization, also used by Health Canada.
Category BMI range Health risk
Underweight < 18.5 Possibly increased
Healthy range 18.5 – 24.9 Lowest
Overweight 25.0 – 29.9 Increased
Obese ≥ 30.0 High to very high

This is not a medical diagnosis

Saluto's BMI calculator is an educational tool. It uses the standard WHO adult formula and Health Canada reference ranges. It isn't a substitute for care from a qualified health practitioner — especially during pregnancy, for children, or if you have an underlying condition.

Frequently asked

Before you worry about a number.

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not particularly. BMI can't distinguish muscle from fat, so athletes with a lot of lean mass often register as "overweight" without any health issue. A body composition scan or a conversation with your doctor is a better fit.

Does BMI work for everyone?

No. BMI was developed from data on mostly European adult men and tends to misclassify people at the extremes of height, older adults, pregnant people, and some ethnic groups. Use it as one input among many.

Why does Saluto show a dot for category?

Because the categories are thresholds, not clinical diagnoses. The dot is a quick visual cue — the number and your body are what matter.

What if my BMI is outside the healthy range?

It's information, not a verdict. Talk to a qualified health practitioner before making significant changes. Small, sustainable habits around movement, sleep and food tend to move the needle safely.

Is my data stored?

No. Everything you type lives in your browser for this session only. Nothing is sent to Saluto or any third party.
